5 Ways to Use Psychology to Increase Social Engagement

April 24, 2017 By Admin

5 Ways to Use Psychology to Increase Social Engagement

It’s a no brainer that Psychology is an important field of study that you should understand when working to build a following for your site (pun intended). So, I’ve got a couple of terms for you — some old, some new.

The first term is “neuromarketing”. It’s a term that is used to reference marketing to the Psychology of the brain.

The next term is a brand spanking new term coined by Bill Widmer on his blog on Hootsuite. This term is called “neurosocial” which references all of the social aspects of neuromarketing.

One further term that Bill talks about is “social proof” which is related to neurosocial. Basically, the idea of neurosocial marketing is about showing your true colours. You need to bond with followers by being yourself, making them laugh and being human. After all, who wants to interact with a faceless corporation? Not many.

We humans are a social animal so show your real life sociable side, build rapport, reciprocity and good things will come via increased social media engagement. So if you’re interested in diving deeper into this field, there’s so much more that you can learn from Bill’s blog. Click the link below to read on.

Key Takeaways:

  • Social proof is a powerful psychological tool that helps build trust between brand and customers.
  • YotPo studied the consumer decision making process of 500 different sites. Sites that added social reviews saw traffic increase by 50 percent on average in three months.
  • The concept of social proof states that people will conform to the actions of others under the assumption that those actions are reflective of the correct behavior.

7 Ways to Add Variety to Your Twitter Marketing

April 6, 2017 By Admin

7 Ways to Add Variety to Your Twitter Marketing

There are seven easy ways you can add variety and spice up your marketing efforts using Twitter according to this latest insightful read by Joanne Sweeney-Burke at the Social Media Examiner.

Joanne suggests the following as possible options:

  1. Create a poll and enable voters to get notifications on results. Using a poll gets customers involved and if you comment on the results, you can showcase your expertise.
  2. Use periscope to stream live events as it can help create a higher viewership.
  3. Link your website to your Twitter feed so people who follow you can be directed to your business’ website.
  4. Monitor trending news and come up with a way to add your own angle to the discussion. Then chime in with your tweets and capitalize on the discussion so you can gain greater public exposure as a thought leader.
  5. Tag influencers in your tweets if you think the content is of interest to them and/or they wrote it. With any luck they will retweet your tweet to their audience.
  6. Post daily or weekly videos with daily tips or company updates.
  7. Finally, by curating highlights of an event and embedding them in your feed, it enriches the follower experience if they click on a curated event.

All of these tactics, if done right, can increase twitter followers and engagement. We certainly use some of these to help build an engaged Twitter audience so hopefully these can also be applied to your next campaign.

Please let us know in the comments section if you agree, disagree or have additional techniques you would recommend.

Key Takeaways:

  • When sharing a link to your site on Twitter, use a Twitter Card plugin to ensure the image and title look good when posted to Twitter.
  • Put the link in the middle of the Tweet for a 26% higher chance of getting it retweeted than if put at the beginning or end.
  • Work out how you can add value to a trending topic before joining the conversation.

Key Quote:

“Get Visual on Twitter – Twitter will reward you for visual storytelling. You can add images to your tweets without losing a single character, so that’s an added bonus.”

Want to Become Known to People Who Matter? Then Thought Leadership Is For You

You’ve probably heard the saying, “It’s not what you know, but who you know.” No one knows this better than Mark Schaefer, a prolific online marketing blogger, author, and speaker. He has generously shared his knowledge and experience in social media on the on-demand talk radio show from Social Media Examiner.

In the following article, Mark discusses the term “thought leader.” He talks about what a thought leader is and the four things you need to know to become known.

So, what is a thought leader? A thought leader is someone who is known as an expert in their field and is highly sought after. To be considered one you need to find your interests, your space, content and audience.

He argues that the most important aspect of success isn’t what you know, but on how well known you are. To be successful, you need to be popular, and social media is a powerful tool for you to achieve this goal.

Key Takeaways:

  • The Social Media Marketing podcast is an on-demand talk radio show from Social Media Examiner.
  • It’s designed to help busy marketers and business owners discover what works with social media marketing.
  • The latest episode includes an interview with Mark Schaefer, a prolific blogger, author, and speaker.

Key Quote:

“The only thing that matters in terms of your online presence is to be known. Being known isn’t about being famous, but having an appropriate digital presence to help you achieve your goals.”

How to Use Facebook Ads to Boost Your Best Content

How to Use Facebook Ads to Boost Your Best Content

Social media advertising is big for businesses, generating significant leads and sales. While search engines have routinely garnered a big portion of marketing and advertising dollars, it pays to consider other venues. Social media sites, like Facebook are sometimes under-utilized, yet a great marketing way to go.

Generating ads by using peak-performing posts is a stellar concept. It is important, though to get it right. Facebook rewards what it considers to be engaging material and bans, or makes less-engaging material have to work much harder.

Facebook analytics can help business people see what posts got the most shares and traffic. It’s these posts that can prove the gold mine for advertising concepts. And while the goal is to get leads and sales, not make people feel warm and snugly, it is those warm and snugly feelings that encourage potential buyers to click and engage.

Key Takeaways:

  • The Social Media Marketing podcast helps busy marketers and business owners discover what works with social media marketing.
  • Businesses can use social ads to target people based on demographics, interests, or behaviors.
  • Facebook rewards companies that promote interesting content and charge only pennies per click.

Facebook for Business: How to Put the Platform to Work for Your Brand

September 25, 2016 By Admin

Facebook for Business: How to Put the Platform to Work for Your Brand

Do you own your own business? Are you thinking of using Facebook as a platform to spread awareness of your brand? If so you are moving in the right direction by taking your business to the most popular social media website on the Internet. But simply creating a Facebook page and then promoting it will not be enough to drive up sales unless you have a strategic Facebook marketing plan in place to begin with.

If you want to be successful when advertising on Facebook you need to know:

  1. The preferences of the audience that you are targeting,
  2. The number of followers that you likely need to attract in order to make your brand successful,
  3. The best way to make your page look visually appealing,
  4. The prime time to publish posts so they will be seen by the largest number of users.

There are many more tactics that are essential to running a successful Facebook marketing campaign. These are but a taster. For a more in depth look I’d recommend the below article on Hootsuite.

Key Takeaways:

  • Facebook has 1.09 billion active daily users.
  • Users average 20+ minutes per day using Facebook.
  • Determine your campaign KPI’s before launching ads. Are you looking to drive up the number of Facebook Page followers? Are you looking to drive up engagement with your content? Be specific from the start so you can measure the success of your campaign.

Key Quote:

“These days using Facebook for business is a no-brainer. “Hashtag” and “emoji” may have been unprofessional-sounding buzzwords a few years ago, but no longer.”

How to Build a Lucrative Online Community for your Small Business

Online communities serve a variety of business goals, such as providing service and support, fostering innovation, and building brand equity. Your platform depends on your target audience. For example, Millenials are on Instagram and corporate leaders on Linkedin with most people also on Facebook.

You need to up with different marketing ideas because unique gets you noticed and imitation gets you ignored. Don’t be afraid to be an oddball. People will admire your courage and follow you.

Blogs, videos and podcasts are great ways to deliver your products. Start with a lower price first then, as trust builds introduce expensive offers. A landing page is a single web page with only basic information about what you are promoting. Go for a single page as it has only one action and reader’s don’t get distracted. You should engage them several times per day on the platform.

Are Social Marketers Focused On The Wrong Metrics?

April 12, 2016 By Admin

Are Social Marketers Focused On The Wrong Metrics?

The internet is an ever evolving beast (see the bots announcement today by Facebook) and marketers always need to keep up with the same rapid pace of innovation. One area in which some may have lagged behind is the metrics that are tracked to indicate the success or failure of a marketing campaign.

Page views were an alright representation of success in the 1990’s but this outdated tracking tool is still being used by some marketers today. A vine that is shared a million times may only generate 10,000 page views but it has created 1.5M consumer impressions, a positive association not reflected by the page views.

From Instagram to Twitter, there are many new forms of social media that can be used to reach customers, so the first thing to do is determine the proper way of measuring success on different platforms. Measuring different media impacts on the overall impression of a brand is hard but analyzing and tracking data and measuring via unconventional means can help to close the gap.

David Lloyd Leisure - Dartford has been working closely with Smoking Chili Media throughout 2017. Our initial aim was simply to grow our face book following, however the team at Smoking Chilli took this to a whole new level. As well as dramatically increasing our face book following we have seem dramatic increases in member (and indeed non member) engagement creating a real feeling of 'clubiness' throughout our member base. This engagement, as well as amazing in club marketing (thanks Claire) has boosted member attendance at every social event this year which drives our retention as well as additional spend. Smoking Chilli has also been instrumental in raising the profile of the club within the local community which has driven non member club visits, leading to new member sales. If you are looking for a team who will deliver on every level and drive your online marketing to new heights then look no further than Smoking Chili. Thanks guys.
